Item #:511
Description: Derived from the Arabic word naqala "to move", mancala games involve picking up all the "seeds" or game pieces from one hole, and then "sowing" them into one hole to the next, capturing along the way. Though the play of mancala is quite simplistic, its history isn't. The name Mancala is used to describe a "family" of sowing or capturing type games, played around the world. Probably evolving from Egyptian accounting boards found in Ancient Sumeria and the pyramid of Cheops, there is no hard evidence that these games are older than 1300 years.
